    What is IEC?

    The Import Export Code (IEC) is a 10-digit number issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

    It is mandatory for businesses or individuals engaged in importing or exporting goods/services from India.

    • Who Needs IEC?
    • Importers (to clear goods from customs).

    Documents Required for IEC Registration

    Individual/Business Identity Proof

    • PAN Card (mandatory).

    Address Proof

    • Aadhaar Card / Passport / Voter ID / Driving Licence.
    • Business address proof: Rent agreement / Electricity bill / Sale deed.

    Bank Account Proof

    • Cancelled cheque OR Bank certificate.

    Business Documents

    • Partnership Deed / Incorporation Certificate / LLP Agreement (if applicable).
    • GST (not mandatory, but recommended).

    Step-by-Step Process for Online IEC Registration

    Step:-1
    Visit DGFT Portal
    • Go to 👉 https://www.dgft.gov.in.
    Step:-2
    Register/Login
    • Click on “Apply for IEC”.
    • Create an account using your PAN & mobile/email.
    Step:-3
    Fill Application (Form ANF-2A)

    Provide details like:

    • Business/Individual Name
    • PAN & Aadhaar
    • Bank details
    • Business address
    Step:-4
    Upload Documents
    • Upload scanned copies of PAN, Aadhaar, Address Proof, Cancelled Cheque, and business documents.
    Step:-5
    Pay Government Fees
    • IEC Application Fee = ₹500 (payable online via Net Banking/Credit/Debit/UPI).
    Step:-6
    Verification & Approval
    • Application is digitally signed (Aadhaar OTP/e-sign).
    • DGFT processes the application.
    Step:-7
    Issue of IEC
    • If successful, IEC certificate is issued instantly online in PDF form.
    • You can download it from DGFT portal.

    Validity of IEC

    IEC is valid for lifetime.

    However, businesses must update IEC details annually (April–June) online, even if there are no changes.
