    What is a Digital Signature?

    A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is an electronic form of a signature issued by a licensed Certifying Authority (CA) in India.

     It is used to authenticate identity online and digitally sign electronic documents, making them legally valid under the Information Technology Act, 2000.

    Class 1 DSC

    • Used for individuals to verify name & email.
    • Rarely used now.

    Class 2 DSC

    Mandatory for:

    • E-tendering, E-auctions, E-bidding (Govt/PSUs).

    Can be used by both individuals & organizations.

    Components of a DSC

    Public Key (shared with others for verification)

    Private Key (kept secret, used to sign documents)

    Issued with applicant’s name, PAN, email ID, and validity period

    Documents Required for DSC

    Passport-size photo

    PAN Card copy

    Aadhaar Card / Address proof

    Mobile & Email ID (for OTP verification)

    Business documents (if DSC is for a company/LLP)

    Validity:- DSC is valid for 1 or 2 years (can be renewed)

    How to Get a Digital Signature in India?

    Step:-1
    Choose Certifying Authority (CA)

    Some licensed CAs in India: eMudhra, Sify, NSDL, NIC, Capricorn, VSign.

    Step:-2
    Fill DSC Application Form

    Apply online through the CA’s portal.

    Step:-3
    Submit Documents

    Upload PAN, Aadhaar, and other KYC details.

    Identity Verification

    Video KYC or Aadhaar-based OTP verification.

    Issue of DSC
